5 Steps to Invite Your Neighbor to Church

After a long pandemic where most of us were only able to worship from home, we invite you to come home to us, your church family, and to invite someone to join you! There has never been a better time to invite someone to church, and we believe that SHEPHERD’SGROVE is for everyone.

1 – Spend some time with God.

Before sharing God with others or inviting our friends to church, we must first have something to share.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

This is exactly what Jesus did. Before major events in his ministry, Jesus spent time alone with God.

  • Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness as he prepared to begin his ministry.
  • Before beginning his journey to Jerusalem for his sacrifice, Jesus went to a mountain top and was transfigured.
  • He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night he was betrayed.

2 – Tell your neighbor a story, your story.

Jesus was a storyteller. He often used stories to teach people about God! These parables helped His listeners to understand concepts and lessons. What kind of story can you tell? What is something about SHEPHERD’SGROVE that excites you? Perhaps it’s the coffee and fellowship you get to share in the courtyard on Sunday mornings. Maybe it’s the Creed of the Beloved that we say with Bobby as a reminder that no matter what we say or do, we are the beloved child of God. Maybe it’s our amazing choir that energizes you in the morning! If they have kids, maybe you could tell them about our incredible Children’s Ministry! Have you been a part of one of our ROOTED sessions? Tell them about that and what you loved about it!

3 – Ask your neighbor to tell you about their faith journey.

Sometimes listening is the best way to show someone love.

4 – Invite them!

If we invite our friends to church, we have to actually invite them to church!

5 – Repeat.

Spend time with God, tell a narrative about yourself, inquire about other people’s beliefs, and invite your friends to church. Then go back to the start and repeat the process.
