Let’s Have a Fiesta

By Curtis Drever

Ready to party? Save that date so you can join us for our annual El Niño Backpack Fiesta on Saturday, August 24. This one-day mission trip, which we’ve been doing for over 10 years, is a great way to experience the blessing of ministering in another country while still waking up and going to sleep in your own bed! We will meet at Shepherd’s Grove at 7:00 a.m. and return by 7:00 p.m.

As we go, our purpose is to love on the kids in the El Niño community by building relationships with them and encouraging them in their education. We do this by handing out backpacks, uniforms and shoes, and putting on a fiesta for them to enjoy! We also enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by the fabulous cooks from Ministerios Transformacion.

Afraid you won’t be able to communicate? No experience or Spanish-speaking skills is needed, and all ages are welcome. This is also a great opportunity to bring your friends, and family, make memories together and to meet your sponsored student (if you have one).

Should you choose to particpate, activities may include handing out backpacks, running a game or craft booth for the students, taking photos, translating (if you speak Spanish), or setting up.
Sound interesting? We would really love to have you join us! For general trip questions, email Julie Waterman (cjezewaterman@cox.net), or to coordinate a ride, reach out to Kerstin Tabbert (kerstin.tabbert@hotmail.com). If you’re ready to sign up, you can do so here!
