Dear Church Family,
It’s good to know that nothing takes God by surprise, isn’t it? Like me, I’m sure you’ve been hearing a lot about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). In response to local authorities and in compliance with the governor’s recent request that groups of over 250 people not meet publicly, we’ve made the important decision to cancel all in-person worship services at Shepherd’s Grove through the end of this month. We feel this is the prudent thing to do in an effort to protect our multi-generational community, especially the elderly and those with special needs, who are most vulnerable.
Thankfully, the gift of technology means we will still be having service, only online! We will be suspending all in-person worship through the end of the month. We invite you to join us for the next three Sundays at 9:45 a.m. PT at sgp.church/live or on our YouTube page at youtube.com/bobbyschuller or my Facebook page at facebook.com/bobbyschuller. We’ll have a full choir and orchestra and I’ll still be preaching, but without the congregation present. I encourage you to gather with your family and friends, have a watch party from the comfort of your home, and let the Word of God encourage your heart in this time.
As a church, this is also a great opportunity for us to lean into our trust in God and the goodness of His plan. He is bigger than this crisis and His peace brings consolation to even the most troubled hearts. Today, I pray for an extra measure of the Holy Spirit’s protection, grace, and strength to envelope you, and I encourage you to embrace a spirit of faith rather than fear. As disciples of Jesus, we have the unique opportunity to bring His Hand of hope and healing to a troubled world. Let’s answer that call by being prudent in taking care of ourselves and our families, but let’s not panic. The God of Creation holds us, and I believe that He can and will use this season to bring glory to His Name.
To help, here are a few verses to meditate on over the next few weeks:
- “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
- “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)
- “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6,7 (NIV)
I look forward to worshipping with you online for the next three Sundays at 9:45. Until then, know that I’m praying for you and asking the Lord for an extra measure of His peace that surpasses understanding in your life and in the lives of those around you.
God loves you and so do I,
Pastor Bobby
